Getting Started
What is Kryven Vault?
A secure document storage app for iPhone and iPad. Store insurance policies, passports, IDs, memberships, warranties, credit cards, bank accounts, and more — encrypted with AES-256-GCM and synced via iCloud.
How does Kryven Vault fit with Apple Passwords and Kryven Legacy?
Each app has a distinct purpose. Apple Passwords handles logins, passkeys, and one-time codes — it's already on your iPhone. Kryven Vault handles personal documents: IDs, passports, insurance, credit cards, warranties. Kryven Legacy handles family handoff planning — a digital roadmap of what exists, where it is, and who to contact. Use all three together for complete coverage.
Is Kryven Vault available on iPad and Mac?
Kryven Vault is available on iPhone and iPad now. Mac support is coming soon. Your purchase covers all platforms — no additional payment required when Mac arrives.
Do I need an iCloud account?
Yes. Kryven Vault uses iCloud for cross-device sync, secure document sharing, automatic backups, and encryption key storage. iCloud+ is not required, but provides additional storage.
How do I set up biometric authentication?
Open Settings → Security → toggle Biometric Authentication on. The app uses Face ID or Touch ID if available on your device, with your passcode as fallback. Optional but recommended.
Security & Privacy
How is my data encrypted?
Kryven Vault uses a zero-knowledge design with AES-256-GCM end-to-end encryption. Your documents are encrypted on your device before anything syncs — no one but you can read them, not even Kryven. Keys are stored in Apple Keychain and iCloud Keychain. See the Security page for full details.
Can Apple read my documents?
No. All document content and attachments are end-to-end encrypted on your device before they reach iCloud — Apple stores only encrypted data it cannot decrypt. Four metadata fields (category, created date, modified date, and favorite status) use Apple's standard CloudKit encryption rather than app-level E2EE. Apple encrypts these in transit and at rest but holds the keys. These fields contain no document content or personal details.
What are the metadata fields that aren't end-to-end encrypted?
Four fields use Apple's standard CloudKit encryption instead of the app's end-to-end encryption: category (e.g. Credit Card, Insurance, Passport), created date, modified date, and favorite status. These are needed for sorting and filtering in the app. Apple encrypts them in transit and at rest, but holds the keys. No document content, personal details, or sensitive information is stored in these fields. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
Can Kryven Vault employees read my documents?
No. Kryven has no servers and no user accounts. Your data lives in your iCloud account — we have no access to your encryption keys or encrypted data, and there is nothing on our end to breach.
What happens if I forget my device passcode?
You can factory reset your device through Apple's recovery process. After signing back into the same iCloud account, your documents sync back and your encryption keys restore automatically from iCloud Keychain — as long as iCloud Keychain was enabled on another signed-in device.
Is my data safe if my device is stolen?
Yes. Device passcode, biometric lock, on-device encryption, and remote wipe via iCloud all protect your data. Without your passcode and biometric, the documents are inaccessible.
How do you handle privacy?
No tracking, no analytics, no ads, no third-party data sharing. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Features & Limits
How many documents can I store?
Free: 10 documents. Premium: unlimited. Most users store insurance cards, IDs, passports, credit cards, bank accounts, and similar records.
What types of documents can I store?
Ten categories: Credit Card, Bank Account, Identity, Driver's License, Passport, Insurance, Vehicle Registration, Membership, Warranty, and Secure Notes.
Is my financial data (credit cards, bank accounts) handled differently?
All categories receive the same AES-256-GCM encryption. Financial data is stored as a personal reference — like keeping a copy in a filing cabinet. Kryven Vault does not process, transmit, or facilitate transactions with your stored data. The only difference is that CSV and JSON exports exclude financial categories to avoid exposing sensitive data in plaintext files. Use .kvlt export to include everything.
Can I add custom fields to documents?
No. Each category has predefined fields designed for that document type. No setup needed.
How many attachments can I add?
Up to 5 attachments per document, 5MB each (25MB total per document). You can add attachments from your camera, photo library, or files. Attachments are compressed and encrypted automatically.
How do I search for documents?
Tap the search icon and type. Results filter across titles, field values, and categories as you type.
How do I delete a document?
Swipe left → Delete → confirm. Deleted documents are soft-deleted for 30 days so you can restore them if needed.
Sharing & Collaboration
How do I share documents with someone?
Documents are shared through groups, not individually. Create a group, add participants, then add documents to that group.
How do I create a shared group?
Open the sidebar → Create Shared Group → enter a name → add participants by email → tap Create. Documents must be explicitly added to a group — they are not shared automatically.
How many people can I share with?
Free: 1 shared group. Premium: multiple groups with multiple participants each.
How are shared documents encrypted?
Each group has its own encryption key. All documents in the group are encrypted with that key, so only authorized participants can decrypt them.
Can I revoke access to a shared document?
Yes. Open the group → Manage Participants → swipe left on the person → Remove. Access is revoked immediately.
Can I manage shared groups on iPad?
You can view shared groups and their documents on iPad, but creating, editing, deleting groups, and accepting share invitations are only available on iPhone.
Import & Export
How do I import documents from 1Password?
Export from 1Password as CSV or PIF → open Kryven Vault → tap Import → choose the file → review the preview → tap Import. Duplicates are detected automatically. Import requires Premium.
What file formats can I import?
1Password CSV, 1Password PIF (.1pif in a zip), and Kryven Vault Bundle (.kvlt).
Why aren't all my 1Password items imported?
Kryven Vault imports only items that match one of its ten supported categories: Credit Card, Bank Account, Identity, Driver's License, Passport, Insurance, Membership, Secure Note, and more. Items like login credentials, software licenses, or API keys are skipped because they fall outside what Vault is designed for. This keeps your vault focused on the documents that matter — personal records, financial data, and identity documents — without clutter from items better suited to a password manager. The import preview shows exactly what will and won't be imported before you confirm.
How do I export my documents?
Settings → Export → choose format (CSV, JSON, or .kvlt) → choose scope → Export → choose save location. CSV and JSON exports exclude financial categories (credit cards and bank accounts) to avoid exposing sensitive data in plaintext. Use .kvlt for a complete encrypted export.
What's the difference between CSV, JSON, and .kvlt?
CSV: spreadsheet-compatible, no encryption, no attachments, excludes financial data. JSON: structured data, no encryption, no attachments, excludes financial data. .kvlt: encrypted, includes all categories and attachments. Use .kvlt for backups.
Can I import from another password manager?
Currently 1Password only (CSV or .1pif). Support for additional sources may be added in future releases.
Pricing & Billing
What's the difference between Free and Premium?
Free: 10 documents, 1 shared group, manual export. Premium: unlimited documents, multiple shared groups, 1Password import, automated backups, expiration reminders, custom retention. All plans include encryption, sync, and offline access.
How much does Premium cost?
Monthly: $2.99/month. Annual: $24.99/year (30% off). Lifetime Early Bird: $79.99 one-time (first 500 users), then $99.99. See Pricing for full details.
Can I upgrade or switch plans?
Yes. Open Settings → Subscription → choose your plan. Monthly-to-annual switches are credited for remaining time.
What happens if my subscription expires?
You keep read-only access to all documents and can still export. Premium features (import, backups, reminders) are disabled until you renew. You can delete documents to get back under the 10-document free limit.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request one.
Technical Issues
Kryven Vault won't sync. What do I do?
Check your internet connection, force-close and reopen the app, wait 30 seconds. If still not syncing, restart your device and confirm you have available iCloud storage.
Why can't I see a shared document?
Confirm you accepted the share invitation and are signed into the correct iCloud account. Force-close and reopen the app. If still missing, ask the owner to resend the invitation.
Why is my attachment not uploading?
Check that the file is under 5MB, you have an internet connection, iCloud storage is available, and you haven't hit the 5-attachment limit per document.
Why is my biometric authentication not working?
Confirm biometric is enabled in Settings → Security. If your biometric has changed, re-enroll it. Use your device passcode as a fallback.
How do I update Kryven Vault?
App Store → your profile → find Kryven Vault → Update. Enable automatic updates to keep it current.
Can I use Kryven Vault offline?
Yes. View, edit, and add documents offline. Changes sync automatically when you're back online. Sharing and import require a connection.
Keychain Recovery
What is iCloud Keychain and why does Kryven Vault use it?
iCloud Keychain is Apple's secure credential storage. Kryven Vault stores your encryption keys there so they sync across your Apple devices without ever being exposed to our servers.
How do I protect myself from losing access?
- Stay signed into iCloud on more than one device
- Keep iCloud Keychain enabled (Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Passwords & Keychain)
- Secure your Apple ID with a strong password and two-factor authentication
- Export regular encrypted .kvlt backups via Data Management
What causes encryption key loss?
Most cases follow iCloud sign-out, keychain reset, device reset without another signed-in device, or Apple ID changes. The safeguards above prevent most of these. If keys are permanently lost with no backup, encrypted documents cannot be recovered.
Can I recover my documents if I lose my keys?
Yes, if you have a .kvlt backup and its password, or another signed-in device that still has your keys. Without either, recovery is not possible.
I lost access to my documents. What should I do?
1. Check another Apple device on the same iCloud account — open Kryven Vault there.
2. Check for a .kvlt backup — use Import in Data Management to restore.
3. If neither applies, see the Still Have Questions card below.
